Silver Fox rabbits, not to be confused with Silver rabbits, were originally created here in Ohio, specifically Canton, Ohio, by a man named Walter B. Garland. They are commonly bred for meat, show, and their unique fur. The breed is rare and considered critically endangered. We are doing our part in getting the breed recognized by breeding and attending rabbit shows.
Currently Black is the only showable color variation, however, other color variations are being worked on to be able to show. Some other color variations include Blue, Chocolate, and Lilac. There are some breeders working on a Tort color as well.
The breed is distinguished from other breeds by its 'standing' fur and close resemblance to the Silver Fox.
New Zealand rabbits are a great commercial rabbit and are commonly used for show and meat production. The breed originated in California despite its name. New Zealand white rabbits were first bred in 1917 when a New Zealand Red rabbit had a litter of four albino kits followed by selective breeding.
